Welcome to my February 2026 cozy mystery reading wrap-up and rankings, where I share what I actually read this month and the cozy vibes each mystery brought to the heart-of-winter reading season.
February reading always feels slightly different than January. The sparkle of the new year settles, routines feel more established, and I tend to crave immersive, comforting mysteries that balance atmosphere with strong community ties. This month leaned heavily into snowed-in settings, small-town drama, food-forward comfort, weddings-gone-wrong, and classic whodunit elegance.
There was a surprising amount of winter carryover (Christmas was still very much alive), but also Valentine’s energy, Mother’s Day drama, summer flashbacks, and even an Egyptian cruise.
If you’re looking for cozy mysteries to add to your TBR — or you enjoy seeing how my reading stacks up month by month — you’re in the right place.

Snowy. Foodie. Eventful. Series-heavy. Comfort-driven.
This month leaned into:
Here’s the complete list of what I finished this month.
Total cozies read in February 2026: 18
This section ranks every cozy mystery I read in February 2026, ordered from my #1 favorite of the month down to the book that ranked lowest for this specific reading period.
These rankings are based entirely on personal enjoyment, cozy atmosphere, memorability, and how well each book fit my February reading mood. A lower ranking doesn’t mean a book wasn’t good — it simply means it didn’t connect with me as strongly as others during this particular month.
February was incredibly series-heavy, which made for very consistent comfort reading. Many of these books were separated by slim margins, especially among the winter and foodie picks.
How to Read These Rankings
This format lets me see which seasonal tones and subgenres resonated most — while honoring that every book contributed to a very cozy reading month.
Winter Refused to Leave (and I Didn’t Mind)
Between:
…it was basically Christmas in February.
Snowed-in cabins. Tree lightings. Collies. Sleigh rides. Nutcrackers. Missing Santas. I apparently had zero interest in letting go of twinkle lights.
And honestly? February might be peak Christmas cozy reading time. No pressure. Just vibes.
Foodie Cozies Completely Dominated
This month was stacked with culinary mysteries:
Chocolate shops. Pie cafés. Lime shortages. Tea rooms. Bridal showers. Fiber arts conferences with cookies. Campus food scenes.
If January was snack-table energy, February was full-on catered event season.
Bonus: so many of these included recipes, which always boosts the cozy factor for me
Events, Festivals & Public Gatherings = Prime Murder Territory
Reunions. Bridal showers. Valentine’s Day weddings. Mother’s Day brunches. Longbow competitions. College campuses. Holiday festivals.
February had a lot of “everyone gathered in one place and something goes wrong” setups.
Public tension + family drama + high emotions = classic cozy fuel.
Animal Sidekicks Were Everywhere
This might have been one of the most pet-heavy months I’ve had:
Even the non-pet-forward books had strong “community ensemble” energy that mimicked that warm, loyal dynamic.
Bookish & Library Cozies Made a Strong Showing
I had some excellent bookish representation this month:
Bookshops. Author energy. Auction teas. Chocolate + books combo stores. I clearly gravitated toward stories where literature and community intersect.
Classic Elegance Balanced Modern Cozies
Reading Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie alongside small-town culinary and holiday cozies was such a satisfying contrast.
Egyptian cruise glamour.
Layered suspects.
Closed-circle tension.
It gave the month a slightly elevated, classic whodunit anchor while the rest of my reading stayed warm and community-centered.
This month had a strong mix of trusted comfort authors and new beginnings, especially series starters like:
I love months where I both deepen existing series loyalty and test new cozy waters.

March is shaping up to be a blend of bookstore charm, tea travels, crafty sleuthing, Southern sass, and seasonal contrast.
From A Very Novel Murder kicking off a new detective agency in Redwood Grove, to Tea with Jam & Dread taking Lily overseas, the month looks more travel-forward and slightly more varied in tone.
There’s home renovation chaos in The Diva Paints the Town, paranormal Southern energy in Southern Sass and a Crispy Corpse, yoga cats in A Pose Before Dying, and honey boutique sleuthing in Death Bee Comes Her.
March feels slightly fresher, craftier, and more transitional — winter loosening its grip while spring themes start creeping in.
February 2026 leaned heavily into winter comfort, culinary coziness, and event-driven mysteries. It was less experimental and more rhythm-based — familiar series, reliable tones, snowed-in energy, and food everywhere.
Between sleigh rides, bridal showers, tea auctions, knitting conferences, chocolate shops, and Egyptian river cruises, this month balanced comfort with variety surprisingly well.
Now that my rankings are finalized, I can clearly see which subgenres shaped my late-winter reading mood — and the verdict is in:
Food + snow + small towns still reign supreme in February.
